L&S Advising New Student Guides
Many students find themselves both excited and full of questions after they get their acceptance. You may be wondering what to expect and how to sort through the huge amount of information out there.
Whether you have just learned you've been accepted to Cal or are already in your first year, our New Student Guides will highlight resources, tips, and policies that might be particularly helpful for you at each stage of your transition into Cal.

Athletic Study Center (ASC)
The Athletic Study Center supports student-athletes in developing as independent, self-reliant, and successful young adults. As an academic unit within the Division of Teaching and Learning, the ASC encourages student-athletes to integrate, participate, and become vested members of the academic community. A supportive and instructional staff provides a broad range of programs including advising, tutoring, career planning, internships, research, and professional training.

Student Learning Center (SLC)
The Student Learning Center is a community of 8,000 undergraduates, 250 tutors and instructors, and 20 professionals. Our philosophy is that students working with students promotes academic excellence and personal success.
Core Values:
-
Deliver service with integrity
-
Approach learning as a process, not a product
-
Create innovative pedagogy and practices that optimize student learning
-
Operate from a student-centered framework
-
Respect diverse ways of knowing and learning

Student Parent Center
The Student Parent Center is committed to the holistic support and success of highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students who are engaged scholars and devoted parents at UC Berkeley. The center is a centralized multipurpose campus resource where students can seek informed advice, develop leadership skills, engage in informal study groups, nurse babies, change diapers, celebrate achievements, recover from setbacks, and form lasting friendships.
At every level of educational achievement, from high school through PhD programs, becoming a parent can preempt or preclude educational opportunities. Sustained efforts over the past 25 years have resulted in the development of Berkeley’s model.
